Fly spray safe?

I keep my 50 lb. sulcata by the barn where there are lots of flies, despite my best efforts. They seem to love his shell (nice warm spot) but are really honing in on his eyes, to the point that the eyes are watering. I have a fly spray that I use on myself, any reason I couldn't carefully use it on the tortoise?

No. Tortoises absorb toxins through their skin, so you don't want any fly spray settling on him. Look for something like this to hang above the tortoise:

I see. If there are flies around the tortoise when he's out in his habitat, you need to turn him upside down and clean out all the poop from around the tail section of his shell.
