From how far away does a remote probe thermometer work?

I'd like to get a couple remote probe thermometers for my brumation boxes, which are in a freezer in a back yard shed. Does anybody know how close the probe has to be to the readout for it to work? Their signals will be able to penetrate the freezer walls, right?

Your going to have to look into, the ones you would consider buy and that you can find in your area or that you would want to pay. They are all going to be different. Also, you have to take into consideration walls and other obstacles that could prevent it from working within the distance you need it to work. Mine is good for 100 feet. It is less then that and it looses the signal connection a few times a day.

Most will give an effective range, such as 100' or more. The ones I use have an effective range of 300' and they brag about it on the package. You need to consider electrical interference as to the range being less. I use the expandable ones that will allow the use of three remote sending units. I imagine you could find ones that would take more remotes, I've just never found them.

I was gonna get a couple of AcuRites I saw at Lowes for $15-$20, but I didn't see a range listed on the packaging. When I looked up reviews online, someone was complaining about it not working from a room 15-feet away, so now I'm back on the hunt.

Oh, and the other question I have is, if I place two in the same freezer, will they not work cause they're in such close proximity to each other? That was the impression I got from reading product reviews of the AcuRite one online.

The remote units I have, have differing, specific channels.

I purchased my newest ones from an eBay seller. I had some really good ones from radio shack but after about 15yrs of use they crapped out. And my local radio shack doesn't carry those any longer. Probably because they worked too long.

These are reliable units and you can get some pretty fancy units if you spend the money.
