It seems like it could be uncomfortable when he walks with it...

You can see the quick through it really easily. I'd snip it it with a fingernail clipper.

Ok I felt that as well, I have experience with cat and dog nails and I have been very successful with not hitting any quicks..

trim it. just go slow.. and don't take much. have 'quick stop' on hand in case you nick it..

Quick stop is good stuff, I've been lucky to not have to use it in many years! I have pro cat clippers and pro dog clippers. I was thinking of using the cat ones since the nail is small and skinny almost like a cat nail..
