This is more of a rant than anything, but at some point I'll probably put a listing up for him. But for now, I need to complain.
I've turtlesat Gold bit for almost 6 months now. I've invested well over $200 in him, since I eventually planned to return him to Best Friend. Well, now that I"m moving to Husband and joining the Navy, I can't take GB with me, or continue to pay for him. And her parents aren't letting her take him back. When I took him in it was "either someone takes him or we're putting him back in the Guadalupe". As a broke, newly(ish) married person, the money I've spent on him could have been used on many other things, including my Deryn. I know I've spent at least a car payment on this dude.
I've put so much work into GB. Best Friend's family had no idea how to take care of him, or what he was. They thought he was a RES. They took him from the wild and had him living in a metal bowl for 8 years. When I got him I finally put UV and heat on him and started feeding him shrimp in addition to his turtle food. His shell hardened and he shed off 8 years of growth. He finally just stopped shedding his shell, but I think he's shedding his skin now. He went from silver to the more natural brownish shade of common musks. I've spent homework time cleaning his tank and getting this turtle back to health, and now we have to rehome him because her parents are being stubborn.
It's just frustrating because I did all this work expecting my Best Friend to take him back so he could live as much as his lifespan as he could. And now he's more thank likely going to a stranger, which I know bothers her. I mean, husband and I could technically keep him, but we're already going to have to support Deryn, Winston (ball python), and more than likely a new baby sulcata (still discussing this, in depth) and neither of us particularly even like turtles. I was just doing it because I've known Best Friend for 9 years and that's what friends do.
Ugh. Fate is mean sometimes.
