Hey all,

I'm a new pancake tortoise owner.
been reading a lot in these forums about diet and care.

Was wondering if anyone had any info about grasses to feed pancake tortoises. I have a small patch of Buffalo grass. Was wondering if that could be incorporated into his food or if I need to get more/other grasses

Thanks

Hello and Welcome:). Also, congrats on the pancake torts. Check out tortoisetable.org.uk for tortoise safe plant and weed/grass ideas.

With my 'cakes, I've found they are more inclined to eat the broadleaf weeds than grass. Will they eat grass? Sure, once hungry enough. But they eat with gusto the broadleaf weeds.

Hey all,
thanks for the welcome and feedback.
Will check out the thetortoisetable
the lil guy really likes the leafy stuff like dandelion leaves, kale, spring mix, etc.
just curious if there's benefit to grass in their diet. I had heard that in the wild they don't have access to such nutritious food so incorporating grasses would be good.

Thoughts?

I see no real harm in offering them grass from a non-treated lawn. I don't feed mine any grocery store greens in that I've got plenty of broad leaf greens growing wild here.
