Good day. Recently I found out about a tortoise species called the pancake Tortoise. I currently have a Russian tortoise which I've had for about 3 months. I am also looking to expand my tortoise collection. I was wondering if a pancake tortoise would be a good pet for me. Of course I plan to do more research but they seem to be around the same care level(not requirements) as a Russian. The only thing that kind throws me off is the price and maybe I don't have what it takes. If I do get one I will at least wait to January next year. Should I just focus on my Russian or should I start researching and considering this wonder of a tortoise?

Pancakes are awesome and they are pretty hardy and easy keepers too. Get a closed chamber set up if you want one. They do better in them.

Tortoises will live for decades. The prices are based on supply and demand. Pancakes are very slow at reproduction and produce very few babies, and that is why the price is higher than some other species. Don't worry about the price for an animal that will live for decades. The purchase price of the tortoise is insignificant compared to the cost of housing, feeding and heating it for the next few decades, and that is if nothing ever goes wrong and you don't need to pay astronomical vet bills. If you can't afford the purchase price of the animal, then you certainly won't be able to afford caring for it. If this is the case, then wait until you have more money coming in.
