Ive had my little Chomper for a little over a month now, and he's growing like a little weed! Gotta start looking into new housing for him. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. He's currently in a 29 gal breeders tank. With a CHE and UVB bulb. His temps and humidity are great! Like I said any suggestions would be wonderful.

You have had him a month but how old is he? Wondering because I have my 2 five week olds in a 20 gallon tank. I have a 60 gallon one waiting in the shed and it will be about 7 months before their outside encloser is finished. I hope I won't need something bigger before their enclosers are finished.

He's (or she) is about 4 months now. I think his growth was stunted a little in the first few months because the first owner wasn't soaking him and his tank wasn't at the correct humidity. He also didn't have any substrate down for it.

Oh wow he or she is a lucky little tortoise having found you. I guess I am going to have to start getting their outside encloser ready sooner.
Thanks for the info.
I don't know how to do links yet but have you read Toms posts on how to raise sulcata hatchlings and babies. This has helped me out emeansly, I bought 3 books and got more info from his post than the books. I think it's the first link on the Sulcata Tortoise forum page. Hope it helps

Home depot sells larger totes. And now that Christmas is around the corner you should be able to find a larger one. Id go for a larger maybe shorter sided one. Below my signature are the threads that sally was talking about. The ones that tom wrote about raising sulcatas. Highly suggested reading

Yea, I've read some of them. Just trying to get some ideas until he's big enough to go outside. It's also waaaay too cold here for him to be out there. I think I'm going to go with the plastic tote idea. Seems to be the most affordable choice and the easiest.

Got the large tote for Chomper today! Setting it up tomorrow. A few questions though: where can I find coconut coir? And does it go by any other names?? I've looked at my local stores but don't see any. :/

The larger the better. I would build or buy a closed chamber. They are very cheap and easy to heat and humidify, in contrast to open topped enclosures.

...and if you seal it up good and tight... it just might rain inside!

This is one of the 50 gallon long totes, hoping it will hold him for a few months. I've got to start saving up to build him an outdoor area for summer and a larger indoor enclosure.

What would you recommend to cover the tub so the humidity stays up?
