Hi all,

I have been keeping a pair of radiatas for about a year and a pair of leopards for 3 months. The radiatas have been doing great and are growing fast, evidenced by both the increase in weight and the appearance of pale lines along the edges of scutes on the top and bottom shells. They first arrived with weight 50g and 142g respectively and now is 90g and 220g.

The leopards, however, are much slower in growing even though they eat the same food and almost identical living conditions (except dryer). I don't see any signs of growth pale lines on their shells. For 3 months their weights fluctuates up and down and I think this maybe due to water they drank and eliminated. The three weight measurements taken once a month are:

leopard I 50g 60g 54g
leopard II 83g 73g 82g

They all seems fine and active. No signs of any bubbles or breathing problems.

Are these normal? Can I expect to see the same kind of growing pale lines on these leopards just like the radiatas?

You should see grow just the same as on your Radiated tortoises, with your Leopards. You might be keeping the Leopards to dry and they are getting dehydrated and that could be why they aren't growing. Try keeping them like your Radiated tortoises.

Also, the growth on your leopards might be dark chocolate color rather than light.
