I have a baby russian who is mid way through 5 days of metronidazole for flagellates as found in his fecal test. I have read that this med can cause sterile gut. If he is taking this, what, if anything should I be doing about good bacteria? Is there a product that I can buy at a petsmart type store - there no reptile specialty store in my city.

Pro biotics would be your best choose. You can order online through vitamin places or possibly find it at drug stores.

Seems like there is "bene bac" but that looks to be for larger pets. Could I dust his food with that for a few days? I see it's got a lot of chicken product in it. Is that ok!

Has anyone had experience with NutriBac or BeneBac in tortoises?
I have used both on lizards, but have never really been sure it was beneficial. Like chicken soup, I figure it can't hurt...

Hmm, I think I will do as tortadise suggested and visit the drug store and see if I can find something powdered or crushable. Thank you for the help!
