Hawaii North Shore turtle pics

So I went to Hawaii about 2 years ago and took photos of the north shore sea turtles. The only ones in the world that come ashore to bask. Enjoy

FANTASTIC ! They almost blend right in with the rocks/boulders along the shoreline as well.....very fun and thank you for sharing those great shots with us :)

Awesome pictures! I think it's pretty neat how at ease they are around people...they seem like total chillers. :cool:

are they avoiding the sharks....?!
im surprised they allow all those people around them..
wasnt it there, that a few popular favorite turtle were slaughtered on the beach?

right now as far as I know they don't know why they do it. There are theories of course but no one knows for sure. Shark avoidance is not one that I know of, but makes sense. There was one slaughtered there and it broke the honu guardians hearts, and no one has been apprehended yet, and there are no leads that I know of. People are not allowed to touch or feed the turtles it is a crimne so they don't really view people as threats and we went to another beach that baby sea turtles come up on, but that day there were none to see.
