I am getting my new leopard baby next week and im trying to get everything ready for her when she gets here. I got a new enclosure that i am moving my sully Morla into and the new leopard will get her old enclosure. The problem is this enclosure is 36'' by 18'' by 17'' there is one tube fixture and one bulb fixture in the enclosure. Right now the temp under the basking light is between 90-95 and the cool end it between 75-85. Im thinking about taking out the basking light and replacing it with a mvb so the temps start and stay warm...above 90. I am also wanting to put a che in the cage but need to add another bulb fixture or hang a dome light. what size che would i need to keep the overall temps above 80 all the time? should i still use the tube fixture or take that out. I have added a pic so you can see what i have to work with

I am not sure if a MVB would be a good idea, only because the area looks kind a small and the square shape also. Afraid it might make the whole thing to warm. 80-85 is a good all over temp if you do the higher humidity. As far as a Che I think a 100, maybe even smaller would be good for night time use. Maybe just use what you are using now for UVA/UVB and add a CHE for the heat source day and night. Let's see what others have to say.:D

If the lights have been working great for the sullie why not move those lights on over with the sullie.....then get the new one his own set up...I would personally use a long tube uvb along with a CHE / basking heat lamp to maintain the heat.....the long tube uvb is my choice for a baby/young tortoise to avoid damage to their sensitive eyes...now I would consider also as your tortoise grows you will of course plan to change to a MVB....but that would also be what I would do with the little sullie .....

I would be more directly concerned with cleaning the enclosure from all sullie items to make sure no cross contamination occurs....would move all sullies items and substrate over to his new enclosure to allow you to get him settled in and also to give you time to thoroughly clean and disinfect the enclosure that will be for your new tortoise .....

How exciting !!

It took me several attempts before I found the right combination of lamps to provide the heat and basking area I wanted for my baby sulcata. My set up has hanging lamps so I was able to adjust the heights to vary the temps a few degrees either way. Still, I have several bulbs and fixtures that are not in use right now.

If it helps you at all, my enclosure is about the same size as yours (not nearly as sealed up as yours appears to be, and I was satisfied with a 100 watt CHE for the ambient temp both night and day. I will add that to control the temps I plugged the CHE into a thermostat that I keep set at 83F. Without the thermostat I wasn't able to get the results that I wanted.

I was going to start to use the mvb and get a che for the sully when i move her into the bigger enclosure. I have the mvb just sitting around from when i got Morla in Sept. I just finished painting and getting the sully's new home so I just need for the paint to dry completely and get the fumes out then i can move her in. I was going to take everything...ie substrate, hide and dishes and move them in with her. I plan on getting some spider plants and some others this weekend so they both have some greenery in with them.

The problem i am having is i only have one tube and one bulb fixture in the smaller cage, so should i see if i can add another fixture? can the che be on the side of the enclosure? or should i add a hook and hook a dome light fixture for the che?

I understand you right. I would use the tube bulb for UVA/UVB and the other socket, that the reg. bulb is in for the CHE. If it is a ceramic fixture, you can put the CHE in it. You then should not need any more fixtures. I would put the hide under the CHE and check the temps to make sure it doesn't get to hot in it.
