Hello,

Just registered here so decided to say Hi and post a question.

Quick background when I was around 10 or so I kept a few box turtles outside in a pen, sadly over time the wall gave way and they all escaped when I was 20. Not fun. :(

I always talked about liking turtles and such but after living in an apartment just more or less didn't think about getting one, until, my wife surprised me last Christmas with a baby female hermann's tort!

She purchased her from www.turtlesale.com, which after some research and calling felt comfortable with getting her from there.

Her name is Rory (the wife loves Gilmore Girls) and she's been growing A LOT and very healthy. I believe right now she's about a year old.

So, after our friends liked ours so much, they decided to get their own, which of course made us want another one. So, back in June, we got another baby, named Leela. She's still very young, probably no more than a few weeks old when we got her.

Originally the plan was to pen both females together, but I was reading up on due to larger size differences, it's not a great idea. Which is fine, but, whenever I have Rory around Leela, Rory seems VERY curious about her, will get very slow, sniff her, and a few times I noticed she'll open her mouth like she's going to bite. I'd like to not have to watch them when I have them together, but Leela is still SO very small yet I don't want her to get hurt.

Does anyone have any tips on how to maybe get Rory to get along with Leela a little more, and not want to chop on her? Leela is care free when it comes to Rory, but the other way around is another story.

Sorry I rambled, it just trailed off my fingers.

Here's some pictures of the girls, don't mind the date I keep forgetting to change my camera time.

Take care, thanks for any replies!

Eddie, at that size it is best to keep them seperate. In time Leela will no dought catchup to Rory in size or close enough you could try them together. Lots of space seems to be one key to them getting along with lots of site barriers. Females can be agressive to each other and only time will tell. However right now it is a size thing so best kept apart, IMHO.

Sounds good, thanks for the reply. I guess i'll keep letting them meet each other for brief periods and hopefully she'll warm up to her.

welcome to the forum, eddie. i'd have to agree with robyn. its probably best to keep them apart when you can't supervise them.
