cherry head sheldon.jpg cherry head sheldon 2.jpg Hi everyone! My name is Tina.
I am 43 years old but have wanted a tortoise for a very, very long time. Probably since high school when I learned that you could actually own a tortoise but I have always been fascinated by them. And I don't know if it's just me, but I am always correcting people, "It's not a turtle, it's a tortoise!" lol
Well, I am finally now the proud owner/mama of a very tiny Cherry Head tortoise named Sheldon (I know, original right?). At least I believe he or she is a Cherry Head. I have included a picture (I hope it works) I'm fairly new to these type of forums as well.
I am positive I will be annoying the heck out of you all with questions and concerns. So please be patient with me!
I have done a lot of reading about Red Foots mainly because there is more information out there about them. Are Red Foot and Cherry Head care the same? Is there anything different from the Red Foot care that I should be doing for a Cherry Head.

Thank you all so much for having this awesome community! I can already tell you, I don't know what I'd do without you!

Hugs, Tina & Sheldon

The little man in the picture is my 16 year old son, he seemed a little freaked out that Sheldon was climbing up his shirt. He was leaning back on the couch. They are both too stinkin cute!

Hello and Welcome. Your little one is very cute, however looks dry and a slight pyramiding going on. They need a high humidity, 80% to grow nice and smooth, however, you need to keep the top layers of substrate dry as they are more prone to shell rot then some other high humidity torts.
Please read the RF section, care is the same and also take a look at one of our members site the tortoiselibrary.com

Welcome Tina.
Fort Wayne caught my eye, I grew up in Garrett , not 20 miles from there. But that was back in the 60s, way before your time :)

Good fortune to you and your new family member.

She can use some EVCO on his shell (shell only) to help prevent shell rot.
