Hello everyone! My wife and I are about to be the new proud parents of a Russian tortoise (in a few weeks) and thought I would join the community as I continue my research! I really appreciate all the fantastic information provided on these forums and I look forward to becoming an active member of your community.

Also, if anyone has any advice or knows of any reputable places to buy a Russian tortoise in lower Michigan, please let me know!

Yes...where in MI? There's a reptile show in Taylor this Saturday where you can get a tortoise for wholesale! I almost got suckered into a savannah monitor baby that was only $15!
Tortoise prices there run from $25 on up to 4 digits depending what species you want.
If you go however, please watch who you buy from: some of the wholesalers are great, others are horrendous! Just use your eyes and look at all the animals; one vendor has oodles of species and at least half are sick, starved, etc. never saw a breeder there...
Let me know if you go; my husband and I will be there w/ a table of Bearded Dragons & Uromastyx.
