That'll work. His hide is kind of creepy though... :)

Can you cover more of the top? Might hold in more heat and humidity that way. It would be pretty easy to cut some plywood or some corrugated plastic to cover the area between your florescent hood and your basking lamp.

WELCOME :D. That hide is one of those plastic or ceramic tort shells right:D otherwise it is kind a creepy. Please read the threads at the bottom of my post with my signature. Very helpful info.

lol, the hide is not an actual tortoise shell, it's a fake ceramic one. I thought it was a little morbid at first too, but my boyfriend bought it for me, so I figured I might as well use it.

I have a plastic storage lid that I use to cover most of the enclosure to keep in the humidity. I had just taken it off for the pictures to get some top-down shots :)

Adorable! But I would consider changing the substrate. Is that fir bark? If so, then it is not particularly good at retaining moisture. Might want to switch to coco coir, cypress mulch, orchid bark, or a combination of these to keep humidity up.

I like the Hide! Got one myself for Ginger my Florida KingSnake.... she too big for it now but she always looked cute sticking he head out!

Thanks everyone for your welcomes! I'm so glad I found this forum. So much helpful information, I feel like Bowser is going to be much better of because of it. :D

The substrate is a light layer of orchid bark on top of plain topsoil
