Hey everyone! I've been lurking here for the past week or so in preparation of getting a tortoise. I've had box turtles in the past and have always been a turtle/tortoise lover. My girlfriend and I have been preparing to buy a young/baby Russian, obviously doing all the research and getting all the equipment set up before purchasing the animal itself.
Just out of curiosity we went to the local reptile shop today supposedly run by "specialists" and it was just disgusting how they kept their animals. They had a baby sulcata in an enclosure that was about 8 inches by a foot and a half. He was only given a small dish with just plain lettuce in it and the lid for that dish had about a teaspoon of water in it. The floor of the enclosure had only paper towels on it. We had already planned on finding a breeder on here but this just bolstered that decision.
Anyway, this forum seems awesome so far and appears to be full of people who actually care about the lives of these animals. I'm very excited about moving forward with this new adventure!
