Hey my name is dave and I'm from florida my love for reptiles has stemmed from a very young age I grew up with a passion in learning everything I could about reptiles

I graduated colorado state university with a double major in zoology and biology and recently graduated with my masters in evolutionary ecology at brigham young university I have a little house with my wife and 2 kids and although I am addicted to reptiles our financial situation just didn't allow a pet yet luckily our financial situation changed and I convinced my wife that the time is right to get a pet :)

after arguing for a month with my wife that crocodiles are totally harmless we managed to come to the conclusion that
we gonna get a tortoise [emoji28]

We are thinking about a sulcata tortoise
but before we go and buy one I wanted to make sure that our care is on point
That's why I joined this forum
I learned a lot in the past years and that is that books can tell u a lot of **** so I decided to read the care guides here and give a listen to the people who have ACTUAL experience in keeping sulcatas the right way [emoji217] [emoji217] [emoji217]

Hi and welcome!

Being schooled in reptile care, you probably realize the mistake in anthropomorphizing your new little sulcata baby, but I think it warrants mentioning anyway, just in case. Try to not put human emotions on your new little baby (when you get him). He's not lonely. He doesn't need another sulcata to keep him company or be his friend. Tortoises are solitary animals and don't want other tortoises in their territory. He'll be perfectly happy living alone with just the food god for entertainment.

A lot of what you have read or learned in the past has been proven to be old info and no longer good. Please be sure to read all the links given below, and read them with an open mind.

High Humidity not dry conditions!

I already was looking at some sites to buy a sulcata hatchling but after seeing so many adults that need rescuing I decided that's what I'm going to do!

But first im going to build a heated night box.. u have really great posts on this forum :D
