Yes, my first tortoise. Also my first pet since I struck out on my own after high school (15 years ago). I'm a firefighter so I can't have a pet that needs constant attention as I'm gone for 24 hours at a time. I've wanted a pet for years but never thought outside the mammal box. I stumbled across some adorable tort videos on youtube a few months ago and that planted the idea of getting a tort, so I started researching them and they seemed the perfect pet for me. I'm very happy to have Ivan, he's still very shy and not eating yet, but from what all I've read here, that will pass and soon he'll be a fat, happy tort.

I'm full-time with my local FD, been doing it for about ten years now. I wouldn't mind taking my little tort into the station during my shift, but wouldn't trust her there when I'm not there. I don't plan on doing so though, at least not for awhile and not very often. None of our stations have any kind of animal residents beyond fish. We have three fish at our station, we rescued them from a fire in a bucket and brought them back. No one ever came to claim them. I'd be interested in seeing your tort in the rigs though.
