It's an older box turtle.

More experienced members will be able to narrow it down further.

I think (not sure) it's a box turtle. Let's see what the experienced members have to say. :)

I was going to say an older eastern box turtle (Terrapene carolina carolina). Maybe a look at the plastron will solve the mystery. And does it have three or four toes on the back feet?

I was going to say 3 toed box turtle. But as Yvonne said, a look at the plastron and a count of back toes will help.

I think the head says three toed, the top shell says eastern. We need to see the bottom shell and count toes on the back legs. Where did you find this little beauty?

Thanks, everyone. He is posted on my local CL and the owner couldn't give me any information othet than it being "a turtle." I'm thinking of picking him up, but haven't decided yet.
