My 1yo red foot was out exploring yesterday and decided to eat a small shell. Is this ok? Will it break down?

USUALLY, if it was small enough to go in, it's small enough to come out. Just keep the tortoise well hydrated and it should be ok.

A very warm welcome to the forum, and hope your cute little tort will be fine after having swallowed a shell.

Good luck.

My tort eat a screw once in the back garden. Yes - a Screw!
I started sprinting to to get it before he swallowed but I was too late. Needless to say I panicked and payed a fortune to get to a vet to X-ray him and look him over and they didn't do anything! It just passed natrually 2 weeks later he was only 2 years at the time so I'm pretty confident your little one would be ok! :)

Sorry forgot to mention (as I go on about myself :p) that the vet did advise me to bath beastie twice a day so it may be worth trying that as well

They'll eat calcium when they want calcium.
make sure you always have a cuddlebone close by.
Thank you! I did immediately get out the cuttlebone that she's never had any interest in and she went to town.
