I am a new member here. I have recently got 2 Indian Stars. I have few questions for the older member here who are experienced in these area.
1. How to tell the gender?
2. Can I feed him pumpkin, gourd?
3. For susbtrate, can I mix coconut coir, soil & leaves (dead/dried and green) of any tree or plant like to make a bedding. Because most of the options are not available in India as other countries. I am attaching some below links from Amazon. Can you check and tell if I can buy those to use it as the bedding for my Stars.

The top link didn't work for me. The second product looks good. The third is a powder and if there is a complaint about coco its that it is messy. The third sound worse than usual.

I have 2 stars that I've been taking care since the last 6 months. They were too young when I brought them in. I really haven't bothered checking their age, but in this forum, I was told that they definitely were less than a year old.

That said, my approach to petting them has been to keep them open. I've allocated a balcony for them. Where in a couple of plastic trays I have put regular soil, and added some natural grass to it. And then in another small tray I've built a pool for them.

But for nights, I pick them up and put them back in the tub, over a cloth. I'm just not comfortable leaving them all alone for the night.

That's how I've been bringing them up so far.

As for the eating part, both the dudes are moody. Sometimes, they will eat the regular stuff i.e. cucumber for 2 -3 days in a row. Sometimes, they need variety. Things that they don't want to eat, they just don't eat. That makes it easy for me to know what all to feed. So you can just give it a tray. Worst case, they just won't touch what you provided.

Just make sure they get good sunlight and enough hiding place.
