Hello everyone. I have acquired a tortoise and would appreciate it if someone could confirm what breed it is, so I can research properly on its care. I live in Turkey, so its a med tortoise. I have attached a photo. Thank you, Katie

Hi Katie, and welcome to the Forum!!

I'm not good at I.D.ing the Med. species of tortoise, but yours looks like one of the variety of Greek tortoise. Please post a couple more pictures...one looking straight down on the tortoise's back and one looking straight down on his under-side.

Bear in mind, there are no tortoise breeds. All the varieties of tortoise out there are naturally occurring species and subspecies.

If that tortoise was caught in Turkey, then it's a Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca), and it could belong to the subspecies T. graeca ibera or T. graeca terrestris. The Ibera Greek is more common in Turkey, and I think that's what this one is, too.
