I posted a little picture of Herman my Hermann's tortoise a few days ago and today got some pictures from different angles for those who wanted to see :p I have only recently joined this forum and learnt a lot of stuff! I was questioning the condition of his shell as have only just looked into pyramiding and was quite alarmed!! What do you guys think?

So today I took him to the vet to get his beak trimmed as it was way overgrown imo, she said it wasn't to bad and just filed it a little and said she wouldn't take anymore off but I think it still looks really long opinions please??

Also what type of Hermanns tort is he?! I know he's for sure a boy but have no idea what type he is and would love to know! :D :D

Yes, it is still a bit long. More of that point in the front can be filed down. The pyramiding isn't too bad.

He's a Eastern Hermann. Western's tend to be a bit smaller than that.

His beak does still look a bit overgrown to me. You could get a cuttelfish bone to put in his enclosure for him to gnaw on when he feels like it. That way he gets some calcium while he's keeping his beak trimmed :) You could also try placing his food on a flat bit of rock or slate, then he'll wear it down while he's eating.

The pyramiding doesn't look to bad either, I wouldn't worry about it too much. There's nothing that can be done to reverse it, only stop it getting worse, but you've come to the right place to find out how!

he looks like he has massive legs and head in comparison to his shell.

The pyramiding really isn't that bad. For the beak, try and find a flat stone that you can put his food onto. When he goes to eat the food it will keep the beak trim. Have you tried a cuttle bone? My Hermann loves munching on one.

Also looks like an eastern Hermanns to me...

Welcome. First you have a male eastern hermanns tortoise that isn't far away from being a full adult so the pyramiding will be there forever but if he grows some more the new growth may be better. I wouldn't be to concerned with the pyramiding because it's not that bad (I've seen much much worse) and the beak would be much better off with another trim. What set up are you using now?

This is mine... the breeder had him in very dry conditions, so I'm doing my best to try and get regrowth smooth... in my opinion, mine is worse. He is 3 years old.

Set up as in where he lives? He's in an open vivarium with a uv light and heat lamp situated so he has a warm and cool end :)
