Hello people,
I recently acquired a piece of acryllic to seal my open, indoors enclosure.
I plan on cutting said piece to fit the lamp mount and was wondering where would be the best place...
Also, does anyone know if UVB pass through acryllic, and if not, should I keep using my 5.0 compact light? (since I've read they can leave torts blind).
I'm asking since I try to give my tort 2 hours of direct sunlight a day, but some days I won't be able to do so.
I also plan on making some little holes in the acryllic to not suffocate my tort, so no worries :)
P.D. Red light is temporary until i get my hands on a CHE

You should not use the cfl. I'd stop immediately. The 10.0 bulbs are not effective UV sources, the 5.0 bulbs less so.

You also need a different water bowl. Tortoises can drown in those. Sink a terra cotta saucer into the substrate instead.

I am currently not using the cfl, but was wondering if it would be necessary when using the acryllic, since maybe it'd absorb the UVB.
Also, it has come to my attention the issue with this water bowl and I am working on it.
The topic of my post is about the placement of the lamp mount, since Ihave to cut the acryllic and don't want tomess it up by choosing a bad placement.

If you divide your enclosure length into thirds, usually the basking lamp is placed at 1/3 or 3/3. For your enclosure, I would put it at the hide end. Then move the hide to make a basking spot with a rock or piece of tile or slate.

You do not need to drill air holes into the acrylic. We cover the enclosures to keep heat and humidity in...holes will just let it out again. He'll get plenty of air exchange from the hole for the light and from when you raise the acrylic to care for him.

UVB does not pass through acrylic. If you get your tortoise outside for an hour 2 or 3 times a week, you don't need indoor UVB. If you have a stretch of bad weather, he'll be fine without it, even for several weeks.

Thanks!
I did the hole today, on the hide side. I think it turned out pretty well.
Thanks!
