Hi jhstagg:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

What would you like for us to call you?

Also, when we know approximately where you are, it helps us design our answers to better fit your questions.

Breeding age goes by size rather than age. A female sulcata won't be able to lay eggs until she gets to be about 20-25lbs or so. How big is your 4-year old?

If you've just gotten the tortoise, it is probably restless because of being in a new environment.

Ya I doubt it is laying eggs, seems to young unless she just grew like crazy from birth. If she does don't sweat it, let her find a spot and she'll do all the work. Like I said though, I doubt she's laying eggs. She's most likely getting used to her environment and finding places to burrow, all sulcatas will do this when introduced to a new environment.

She is 11" and 6.6 pounds... I am in a little town in Oregon called Lebanon. I am just a teen and am trying to do the best for my torts. I just bought her from a reptile expo for a "deal" $200... I thought well I already owned a sulcata and decided why not another I already have everything they need. As it turned out she had worms:( and a slight case of pyramiding so I like to think I more rescued her than bought her:) I did just deworm her on Monday (3 days ago) could the medication have anything to do with the acting weird? she loves to walk around my house but i never let her out to long to get cold...but now days she will just walk right back to my room push open the door and just wants back in her house. whats that all about?

you have two sulcatas living in the house? are they together? be sure to worm the other one now too..
How do you keep them warm and what are you feeding them?
What is she doing that makes you think she is trying to lay eggs?

They are not housed together.... Lump my first sulcata is still a baby 25 weeks and lives in a forty gallon breeder. Edith my four year old lives by herself in a 4 by 5 enclosure.they stay warm around 100 hot spot 85 90 cool spot daily soaking for the baby and every 3 days for my four year old.
