What is everyones opinion on hemp bedding?

I currently keep mine on half hemp and half sand/compost mix, but I recently read an article on hemp by the tortoise trust saying how dangerous it is to tortoises. I'm now a little worried as I have seen one of my tortoises eating the hemp several times, and she is not really eating a lot- so i'm concerned she may have swallowed some hemp.

Let me know your opinions everyone!

Hiya ~

I've never heard of hemp bedding before, so I couldn't tellya if it's acceptable or poisonous; but keep checking back & hopefully someone will have some kind of knowledge (either first hand or of another they may have known who used such)..

Good Luck!!

Hiya Purpod, hemp is like little shards of wood. I will keep checking to see if anyone can offer some advice. I think I will end up changing the bedding as I am worried about Tilly.

I've always heard no, but don't know why besides that it could have shards. I'd be interested in hearing more. Aspen is considered ok though, and the shredded stuff (snake bedding) has some shards too. My tort hasn't had an issue with it yet. If anything it's too dusty for our liking.
