Hermaphrodite Turtle???

So today Io had her surgery to get her prolapse removed and fixed. What they ended up removing was a piece from her reproductive track that had stretched and scarred in a way that it liked being outside of her. Well, turns out that the vet who removed it thinks it was an underdeveloped penis, making Io a hermaphrodite?! Good news is that it won’t give her any more issues, but wow. I didn’t think it was possible for her to be a hermaphrodite. Anyone else hear or know of this happening in other turtles before?

I’m probably gonna ask the vet about it more when he calls me back in a bit. Could explain why she has only laid eggs once.

Io is a box turtle?

Yes io is a box turtle. She’s been having frequent prolapses and she got surgery to correct it this morning.
