Hermit Crabs & Torts

I heard somewhere that hermit crabs live well with tortoises. So I wanted to know if I should put my hermit crabs in with my yellow footed hatchling. He has a 30" x 12" enclosure. Is it safe for them to be together, or should I separate them again?

It's probably safer for the tortoise than the crabs.
