Yummy. All Herbivores seem to be opportunistic. Saw some deer eating birds.
Maybe a reason for opportunistic eating meat in herbivores is a lack of habitat. If they are starving they'll probably eat it even when they don't have the stomach for it.

Not necessarily. They just take advantage of the protein.

Another example of opportunistic eating would be allowing toxic plants to a tortoise to remain in their enclosure. They might eat it but should they?🤔🤗 I just believe in sticking with an animal's true good diet for what they are.

My granddad in Italy, had a Hermann tortoise. She was around 60 when she died... my grandfather went into the enclosed orchard she had free run of, and saw her eating a snail. There was plenty of food and water for her, she wasn't wanting anything, but she was definitely munching quite happily on a snail. It was the one and only time he ever saw her feeding on meat.
