Just joining the board - we recently added a baby Sulcata Tortoise to our family and we want to make sure we do everything right to make his long life enjoyable for everyone - especially him (or her? We don't know yet! LOL!).

We live in Central Florida - Lakeland, specifically.

Dewey is in a 10gal tank for now, but we are building a tortoise table for him starting this weekend. By Thanksgiving or so he will be moving in.

My 11yr old daughter will be Dewey's primary caretaker, but obviously it's a family pet that we will all pitch in and help with.

Hello and Welcome. read the great threads that our member Tom wrote. They will give you some insight into raising a healthy, smooth sulcata. BTW, a 10 gallon tank is really too small to be able to get the temps s/he is suppose to have. Even temporary, it's too small. Try getting a 50 gallon tote from Home Depot or any other store. They don't cost much and will be much better then the tank and even an open top table.
