Just joining the board - we recently added a baby Sulcata Tortoise to our family and we want to make sure we do everything right to make his long life enjoyable for everyone - especially him (or her? We don't know yet! LOL!).

We live in Central Florida - Lakeland, specifically.

Dewey is in a 10gal tank for now, but we are building a tortoise table for him starting this weekend. By Thanksgiving or so he will be moving in. :)

My 11yr old daughter will be Dewey's primary caretaker, but obviously it's a family pet that we will all pitch in and help with.

Thanks for having this forum, looking forward to reading/posting.

Hello and Welcome. :) read the great threads that our member Tom wrote. They will give you some insight into raising a healthy, smooth sulcata. BTW, a 10 gallon tank is really too small to be able to get the temps s/he is suppose to have. Even temporary, it's too small. Try getting a 50 gallon tote from Home Depot or any other store. They don't cost much and will be much better then the tank and even an open top table.
