Hi!

I am sort of new to the turtle world. I am an intern at a zoo in Chicago and I fell in love with their Red Footed and Yellow Footed Tortoises. I ended up with 2 Eastern Box Turtles from Craiglist because their owner had rescued them from being returned to the wild but didn't know how to take care of them. I still really want a Russian Tortoise but it will have to be after I get a full time job and a bigger place.

My 2 box turtles are Olive and Esther. Esther only has 3 legs but does amazingly well. I have had them since the beginning of September. They live together in a 55G breeder tank. I would like a bigger space for them but I can't afford it and this is what they came with. I soak them 3 or 4 times a week in a Rubbermaid container.

I'm so glad I found this forum!

:D

Hi and welcome to TFO! Is there a certain area of the zoo you work in?

Hello and Welcome :) I live in Chicago. You must be at the Brookfield Zoo? I don't remember anything other then box turtles at Lincoln Park Zoo, however, I haven't been there in a while. Glad you found us. This is the best place for info and just to talk tortoises.

Hi zookeeper89 and welcome to the Forum!

That's a great picture. Box turtles have such expressive faces. They both look like they're wondering why you're laughing at them.

Welcome have helped set up the observation bee hive at Lincoln Park Zoo.
In the farm in the zoo area. I have never been outside that area but was
told they did have red foots there. need to get back there and see them
if that is true

I was an intern at Cosley Zoo in Wheaton. They have 3 3-Toed Box Turtles. But I fell in love with Shedd Aquarium's tortoises. Nice to meet you all!
