Hibernation: How cold is too cold?

I plan to hibernate 2 russians for the first time this year. I live in Nebraska which can get pretty cold during the winters. Plan to place them in the garage. IS that too cold?

A tortoise's eyeballs will freeze, so the answer is be sure he is above 40 degrees, yet below 50 degrees.

Unless your garage is some what heated/insulated, it will get too cold. I would think seriously about using a refrigerator. That way, you can have more stabilized temps.
