Should I hibernate my tortoise? If so how should I do it? What are the effects of not hibernating? Is it safe? Do you do it? How does it work for you?

How old is your tort? What is your level of experience for supporting brumation in a tort? What was your wind down like for the tort?

With all the reading I've done brumation is only done when you are going to breed the pair of torts . Other wise you don't have to brumate any tort . They don't need it .

For you, don't. Tort is doing fine, and you are going to have a few more years before potential breeding.

Please do read a variety of opinions and educated pieces of information, then do decide what you personally support in regards to this topic.

To generally shut out/down the idea of supporting a natural part of certain species of torts life cycle "just because" is, in my opinion, doing a great disservice to the forced captive tort.

I mean, if a person does not want to deal with a species that naturally brumates as part of their life cycle...Then why would you attempt to host a species that does...and to lay claim to the ONLY reason brumation is necessary is for breeding, is a statement that is one without proof...

Just sharing as much information as I can, this way YOU as the host to the tort in your care, can make a decision based on as much information as possible....;)

No need to hibernate. Don't bother with it if your not knowledgable! It can be fatal! Some of us experience owner don't even hibernate ours. It's very risky.

It's not going to effect them in anyways. Unless you have a young one. All it's going to do it grow faster.

yeah dont worry bout hibernation for awhile... from what i recall this is your first tort... so just enjoy your moments with them first... get to know your tortoise... learn more about them... even till now im still at the learning process and ive had mine for years! If your not comfortable about hibernation its not going to harm them... i too own iberas and i haven't hibernate them at all...
