Hi, just wondered if some one can recommend the best substrate for a horsefield, we have been using one the reptile centre recommended when we purchased the tortoise but I'm struggling to get hold of the same one now.

Also is there any way to estimate the age? It was something we weren't told and forgot to ask as my 7 year old was so excited to be finally getting her tortoise.
He's very small and still fits in her hand nicely

Thanks

Post pics of the tortoise and enclosure.
Give temps, humidity and type of lighting and heating you use.
Where did you get him from, breeder or store?

Hi thanks for your reply, he was bought from a store but we know the guy very well as we also have 2 lizards. He breeds so the set up was all checked before we bought him home (all the items he sent me a list of prior to picking him up, although not sure he's a he or not ?) so no issues with that. I just want the best advice for substrate. ? my 7 year old named him tortellini. Eats well, loves being out in the garden. We have an enclosure out there so he's safe.

This may sound stupid but how can you tell? Iv googled alsorts to try and figure it out because when a 7 year old wants to know when the tortoises birthday is an how old he is she doesn't stop til you give her an answer ? we got him mid December last year
