How do we look she is 1572 grams

She's active, and although she didn't eat much last night she did eat some collards and shrooms today while I was at work. So far she has pooped both times she was bathed. And seems to have drank as her head was wet but I didn't see her.

Are we a he or she? I think she but I'm not sure.

How does her shell look, I know it's really pyramided but other than that? And how does her beak look, seems a bit overgrown but is it necessary I get it trimmed ASAP or can I see if slate wears it down?

I'm so glad it's in your care now. Heavily pyramided and probably some MBD. In my opinion the beak trim can wait, but if slate doesn't help it probably needs a trim soon.

Love the extra scutes. The beak does not look bad to me. Doesn't need a trimming from what I can tell. Feed on a flat rock or tile and it should be fine. Not sure of sex, would guess female, but I'm usually wrong:D a good diet, good humidity and exercise and she should be great.

I gotta say I'm already loving her, she is still shy but she seems to be coming around to me, she always pokes her head out when I say hi to her. Can't wait to take her outside this weekend, that will be fun.

I agree with everybody. Hope she comes around for you! But I'm gonna guess that she is actually a HE! But the tail kind of confuses me a little. It's not super long... but if I'm not mistaken, the anal opening (that about as PC as I could make it lol) is very close to the end of the tail which to me hints male... But honestly, I've never seen a tail like that one before... but it also doesn't have the big wide anal notch like a male should have. They actually look like they're rounding out like a females should... You might have to wait on the most obvious of all signs before you can tell on this one... but I'm holding out for male.

Flintus you're going with cherryhead? I'm thinking it might be a mix... it has a darker plastron and enlarged elbow scale but all the other signs say not a cherry. No large bulbous nose, not a bright red nose either... and the head is kinda pinkish...

To the op, do you know where the original owner bought the tort from?

I have no idea, the person I got it from had rescued it as well from someone else who I have never met. I will see if they can contact the original owner but I don't know if they will be able to.

Cherries don't always have the Rudolph nose. The head is red enough for a cherryhead and it looks like marbling maybe? A lot of cherries are mistaken as red foots, plus the area they come from shows many different varieties

I haven't measured yet, but the person I got him from said that he was 7.5 inches long and was told 3 years old. I know it can only be a guess since we don't know when he hatched but does approx 3 sound reasonable?

I noticed a small whistle sound when he breathes its not all the time and it's real quiet. I wouldn't say wheeze it's definitely a whistle and the room mate that came with me to pick him up said he could hear it on the ride home. I drove and he held the tort' s box for me. Is this normal? Bad? He's definitely eating and drinking and really seems healthy although he tends to stay in the dark side of his enclosure, but it's also very humid on that side so I expect that. I'll be fixing his place up tomorrow so it will be humid everywhere.

For that size, and its poor care since probably a hatchling....I would guess it to be in the 5-7 year old range.

The previous owner said the original owner got it from a petsmart that's all they know for its origin.

Then as a wild caught tortoise, this must have been from a few years of neglect and happened after the 4inch mark. Maybe even a little older.

I work for PetSmart, and all the Redfoots I have seen come in are quite smooth. Mine is from PetSmart and had a little pyramiding but still a nice looking shell. Being wild caught they are usually smooth and a little older.

So he is eating and pooping every time I soak him, but lost weight? I've weighed him 2x the first he was 1572 this time he's 1547.

ImageUploadedByTortoiseForum1369525726.885849.jpg

Both weigh ins were right after a bath, tho today's poop was bigger than normal so that could explain it.

I gave him spring mix for the first time today and he loved that, we also went outside for 1/2 hour today but he didn't really seem to enjoy it this time, as he went straight under my chair and sat there the rest of the time.
