Hey y'all,

I adopted a 8 year old Sulcata recently. He's about 30 pounds and he's been eating cuttlebone like crazy, one every two days or so if it's available. I've read that tortoises generally can self regulate on this, but I wanted to confirm that I don't have to worry about him eating too much. Is there an amount i should be offering every week and when he's out that's it, or should i just replace the cuttlebone when he gets through it? Thanks!

Edit to add: the tortoise in my profile picture is not him, he is in much better shape with essentially no pyramiding

Hello there! I can’t really answer here but wanted to comment because I’m also curious on the answer to this lol

Our red foot has a lovely varied diet plus the calcium she needs, whenever we put cuttlefish in with her, it’s munched up pretty quickly, she loves it😂

We limit it for the same fear that she’s going to overdo it, but idk for sure🥲

Just make it available and they will use what they need. It can lay for weeks ignored and then suddenly you find dust and lots of beak marks.
