Does anyone have a guess at how old a 30 pound leopard tortoise may be? It is a female.
No way to know. They all grow at different rates, and they all have different genetics. Most regular leopards aren't going to hit 30 pounds, but if there is some SA genetics mixed in they could. A SA leopard can reach 30 pounds in as little as 4-5 years under ideal conditions and with a higher protein diet, like someone who feeds Mazuri pellets every day. Most leopards under most conditions will take around 8-10 years to reach that size, IF they have the genetics for it.

Thank you. I had no idea they could get that size without improper feeding. I have two leopard females that I started from hatchlings. I feed them a wide variety for grasses and appropriate green leafy stuff with reptivite w vit D supplement and they are 6 and 7 pounds after 4.5 years. I thought that growth rate was crazy fast.
I assume if someone didn’t care he could feed a high protein diet and bulk up a tortoise, but that seems excessive.

I know a guy with a 30 female leopard he wants to get rid of. I am thinking about it. He claims she was that size when he got her 5 years ago. He knows nothing other than that.

Visibly check the tortoise, shell strength, walking, eyes etc ..
If you do succumb ensure you quarantine in an independent enc for a few months yo avoid any disease transfer or contamination.
