Hi all,
I have a thermometer which I bought, but its not an infrared 'zap thermometer' so Im confused as to how to measure the temperature under the heat/UVB lamp. This is the type of thermometer:

How can I accurately measure basking temps with this thing? Its digital by the way with a min/max feature.

Thanks,
Lewis

Why not get a lazer type?
They can be had for $20-$25. And there are no probes for a tortoise to move and trample.
I got these at Lowe's last November for $18. I bought five and gave them out as Christmas gifts.

I just set the probe directly under the basking bulb and leave it. I have 10 probed thermometers and i leave most of the set up at all times to monitor temp changes.
If your tortoise is quite large you should try to position the probe where the top of the tortoises shell would be under the light. ( Tortoise height).

@ZEROPILOT
I think I will invest as it will remove hassle in temp readings. The only thing is, Im in England, so will have to do some looking aroung to find one.
@Alexio
Ill use that method now, will the temps stop rising when the true temp is displayed? if so thats the perfect short term solution,
Thanks,
Lewis
