I've been told that when a tortoise is a baby they need very high humidity in their enclosures, around 70% but I was wondering when does that start to go down? How old should they be when they need less and less Humidity? Or do they need 70% humidity all their lives? And by the way I have a Hermanns tortoise

Higher humidity helps babies stay hydrated and grow smoothly.

Pyramiding is caused by growth in conditions that are too dry. For a hermanni, I'd pay more attention to humidity until the baby reaches 4-5 inches, and then I'd relax about it more, but still offer a humid hide for sleeping and shelter.

For Testudo, it doesn't need to be as wet or humid as it does for some of the more tropical species, but its shouldn't be bone dry either.
