I realize this isn't the best photo, but can anyone identify the type of tortoise this is? (my friends, not mine)
Thanks~Charlotte

Looks like a male box turtle. I would need a clearer shell pic to even begin IDing. Make sure you tell her that its not a tortoise.

O.K. lets keep the learning going.....Danny how do you know that it's a female from just that picture is it because the Plastron (I don't know if I'm saying this right or not) is rounded at the neck and doesn't come out further or is it because of something else that you see?

Could be that it is the dome shape of the shell. Males are sometimes flatter. Let's see if I am accurate. LOL!

It's the carapace Candy :D

A little bit by the carapace, but more the head (eye color, head color and shape)

Danny...is she old? My old Eastern's shell was like that and he was over 60 years old. There wasn't hardly any markings on it and it was so smooth like.

She does have some age to her, but the soils in the midwest tend to wear out a box turtles shell faster than in the east. She's probably 30 to 40 years old.

Wow 30 to 40 years old I wouldn't have guessed that. Thanks Danny I guess it takes a while to learn about difference tortoises or turtles. I've got to admit though that the look she's giving makes me think that she's a happy tortoise. :D
