I have a sulcata tortoise that is about a year old. They eat and sleep most of the time, which never struck me as out of the ordinary, but while watching some videos I learned that they are supposed to be somewhat active as baby’s. Whenever I pull them out of their hide, they just crawl back in. I feed them cilantro, kale, and lettuce, in the mornings (not all at once). I mist them daily, and bathe them 3 times a week. I change their water bowl whenever it fills with poop. Am I doing anything wrong, or is their behavior natural.

What are your four temps?
Basking spot? Warm side? Cool side? Night temp?
Inactivity is usually caused by temps being lower than 80 degrees at any time.
Your diet isn’t great. If you must use grocery store food, a good staple is arugula, radicchio, endive, and escarole. You can usually find them in “spring mix”, but you would still need to supplement it with something else. Be sure that you only feed kale as part of a varied diet, as it is somewhat high in oxalates(if that’s how you spell it, lol) which interrupt calcium absorption. Most lettuces are low and fiber, and are mostly water.
Have you taken a look at our care sheet?
