Indoor tortoise table

Hello,

I would like to ask for some advice on indoor tortoise table. I live in the Philippines and we have 2 seasons, namely the rainy and the dry season. My questions for the dry season is - What would be the best way to increase humidity indoors? I have put in substrates and would spray clean water once a day so there's a mist like effect. Do you recommend that I put a cover on the table to create a more humid environment?

My question for the rainy season is- Is it safe for torts to stay outside even if its raining? I wouldn't want them to feel trapped or deprived of movement while its the rainy season, except of course when there's a typhoon (what we call hurricanes on this side)

Thank you in advance for any advice, I really appreciate any suggestions.

Kara

We cannot answer your question until we know the tortoise species.

Every species has its own care and dietary requirements. Some require higher humidity than others. They all need lots of space, but how much depends on the size of the tortoise.

What species? Are they babies or adults? Are they arid or tropical? This will all take into effect of what you need for your enclosure.

Hello @JoesMum and @TortoiseWarrior

I currently have 3 tortoises..

2 sulcatas and 1 radiata. The are all about 1year and a half. I keep the species separate both indoors and outdoors.

The best way to go is with a closed chamber. This makes it easy to maintain whatever humidity level you want regardless of the season or weather outside. Open tables are not the way to go in my opinion.

It really depends upon how cold it gets when it's raining. Most tortoises seem to enjoy being out in the rain. If it's not any colder than...say, about 75F??? I'd say it's ok for them to be out when it rains. I never bring my tortoises inside. If it rains I just block them inside their outdoor hiding places. It doesn't harm them to have to spend the day locked up.

Thank you @Tom for your advice. Will look into a closed chamber and go through the threads you posted.

Thank you @Yvonne G I think the coolest it ever gets here is 75 which is only lasts a few weeks, if we're lucky. Okay, will try that this coming rainy season..

You can figure out who likes what and get off to a good start. I have heard of people lightly using a hose on hot days to mist their torts. I'm not sure about leaving them in the rain. Cold plus wet is bad for a tortoise, so if you have hot rainy season it might work. Some torts are hatched during the rainy season. Let me know what you think. Others members may come with better and more info.

Thank you @TortoiseWarrior! It's cooler when it rains and gets a bit overcast. I do most them down because I want to maintain humidity as I've read that it is good for their shell and they actually need moisture even if they're semi arrid tortoises..
