Im planning on getting a pet tortoise soon. Still debating if i should get a red foot or greek tortoise. Im from the philippines and its a tropical country that has only 2 seasons — summer and rainy season. I just want to ask if can i use this kind of playpen as an indoor enclosure for it? (In the image below) im planning on adding dog pee pads before the substrate so that i wont have problems having the substrate leak from the crate. IMG_6119.jpeg

Hi and welcome to the forum! Maybe with some modification, such as the plastic lining, the right kind of substrate, and a portable greenhouse as a cover to retain the humidity and temperature, the enclosure in the picture might work. It depends too on the size. age and species of tortoise that you are getting. Let us have more details and our experts here will be glad to help you ensure that your tortoise gets the best possible care that you can give!

I would use a shower curtain instead of the pee pads. A tarp would work too.

Check out raise garden bed with green house. They work really good too and might be better then the doggie playpen.

Either species as a hatchling needs a closed chamber enclosure with 80% humidity.
Cover the enclosure as mentioned above
Use a tube florescent for uvb, incandescent flood bulb for basking. Do not use mercury bulbs, halogen bulbs or coil bulbs.

I think the structure of this might be a little too light weight to add fixtures to secure your bulbs, uv etc, I could be wrong but I’d bare that in mind😊I think the raised garden garden bed @Megatron's Mom mentioned could work better for you🙂
