Hello everyone, I am a new Sulcata Tortoise mommy. “Tank” is 6 months old and we are just learning all about him. We got Tank in December when he was 3 months old. He has almost doubled in size and has a great appetite. We live in SW FL and are currently preparing to build an outdoor pen for Tank to spend a couple hours a day. I look forward to learning more about Sulcatas from all of you! Any and all tips welcome.

Hello and welcome! Until they are about 10 in long is when you can keep them outside fulltime.About 2 yrs old. For now outside time should always be supervised. Hawks and other critters can get them. Look at the closed enclosures section here. It needs to be closed to keep the humidity up over 80%. The cold side of the enclosure should be no lower than 80%, basking area 100 to 105. Soak for tort everyday for at least 1/2 hr in warm water. (Don't let it cool down ). Water depth is to where the top and bottom shell meet. Especially after being out in the hot sun soaks are good. Pics of your enclosure would help us guide you to what you need. Go to the sulcata section and read the care sheets.
