Good day to all. I am new here. I have a baby sonoran desert tortoise named Izzy. Trying to do what is best for him/her. Just want to have brains to pick as questions arise.

Desert tortoises are the best!!! I'm baby sitting two of them right now for a gal who had to go out of town on a family emergency. I just love them.

Be sure to soak your baby in warm water daily for about 15 minutes. Just enough water to come up to the middle of his sides (where the top meets the bottom). Because we have our babies on slow cook (under lights and heat), they dehydrate very quickly. It helps if you use a substrate that you can moisten, and pour water over the substrate when it gets dry. In the real world, baby tortoises hide in holes in the ground where the soil is a bit moist.
