I have a preference for both the very light and the very dark colored torts, especially the ones who are several standard deviations away from what would be the typical appearance for a given breed. Should I reconsider my predilection?

I am wondering if having abnormally light or dark coloration is indicative of anything bad, e.g. breeders inbreeding for desired traits, inherent predispositions that such complexions may indicate, etc.?

Very interested to hear your answers. :)

No, not health related at all. Sometimes it has to do with the animal being kept indoors all its life (in which case, it usually starts to darken when moved outside in the sun), and sometimes its genetic.
