Hi Adam:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know where you are?

There'a nothing wrong with your tortoise's nose, however the beak is badly overgrown. Does the tortoise get any outside time so that it can graze and eat weeds and grasses? In the wild, grazing is how the tortoises keep their beak filed down where it should be. Because your tortoise's beak is so over grown, grazing or feeding it on a rough surface isn't going to help now. You will have to go the route suggested to you by coreyc, and take it to the vet.

I am from Slovenia, thats near italy (europe). Well, the case is that I got the tortoise from the owner who has surely no sense of what the tortoise is supposed to eat. Anyway, now I put it in a 5*5 meter fance on our garden with lots of grass. I am also feeding her with differnet vegatables every day and already mailing different vets in our country to get her trimmed:)
One more thing, how can I for sure chech whether the tortoise is a male or female?

thank you :D

Hi Adam:

If you'll post a picture of the tortoise's underside, including a good shot of the tail area, we can tell you if you have male or female.

I don't see a lot of russians, but I agree that definitely looks male to me.

That's a Hermann's tortoise, but similar to a Russian. :D

You have a very pretty tortoise. Thanks for posting the pic so we could see his overgrown beak.

Pretty tortoise....i see in the background you also house one of the elusive 5 toe species nestled in the grass....move slowly as to not startle it :p

So glad you found a vet to help with his beak! It will be much easier for him to eat. You might have to take him back more than once, if the vet can only trim some of it, they will see.
You might consider chopping his food in smaller pieces until it is trimmed so he can eat better.
