My male 3 year old hermanns very back scute is oddly shaped just wondering if it's normal, he's fed a variety of things like plantain, dandelions, clover, thistles, prickly pear cactus pads an flowers like hibiscus, violets, rose, day Lilly's. mazuri once or twice a week an the odd salad mix in the winter, he's grown pretty quick even though I tryed to have a slow growth rate.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1406251274.859858.jpg ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1406250586.362051.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1406250601.161220.jpg

Seem like you have a great diet for this guy. He looks good to me but I'm no expert.

Are you talking about the fifth vertebral scute or the supracaudal shield that covers the tail? He looks perfectly normal for a maturing male. The supracaudal is supposed to curve and is sometimes quite dramatic in impressive bull males. Beautiful animal, he's shiny because of the way he's kept which is normal for captive bred tortoises.

Thanks Chris I was hoping you would answer! And ya it's the supracaudal scute I was referring to! Sorry I should have use the technical term! An thanks a lot for the info, he has a huge personality! If he catches a glimpse of us walking by the tort table he's instantly to the edge begging for a pet or to be let out( sometimes we have to sneak by lol)

Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know the humidity levels should be for hermanns?
