Is there a particular time of year when Egyptian Tortoises become more readily available for sale? I know they are very rare so I'm willing to be put on a waiting list of a breeder who thinks he/she may have one soon.
Their availability depends very much on how the breeder keeps the adults. For those that are kept indoors with very little to no outdoor environmental influence a breeder can somewhat control their breeding cycles. This is true of any species. Generally, most Testudo species, which Egyptians are a part of, breed and nest in the spring or early part of the year with babies being available later in the year, late summer through fall. There is a very small number of Egyptian tortoise breeders in the U.S. If you search some of the threads in this section you will see who most of them are. Most of them contribute to this site.
