It's so amazing to see the effect rain has on tropical animals, like hingeback tortoises and tree frogs. Thanks for showing us these pix!

You are more than welcome.. thank you Geo.

It was a lightning "show" earlier this evening while sitting in the dark waiting for the electric co. to find what caused the power outage!

Once the storm passed I was able to go out and turn the lights out in the buildings, etc. AND the treefrogs were in full chorus in the woods surrounding our home!!!

Rain always seem to entice the hingebacks into mating, I remember a post on here long time ago when someone's basement sprung a leak and the male decided " well time to mate"
classic thanks for the pictures.

Very nice. I think he was more saying< " I want sex and I don't care with whom" rather then thinking "wuv". :p You know it's hot here and no rain, but the Homes seem to have a round robin going with which male is in the mood. Every day, it's a different male voice I hear.

Yeah yeah Jacqui..... you're no fun - we know where your head is - even tho' I'm sure in the wild whenever they [ the males ] come upon a female, instinct tells them to breed. Sex? ( I sent you an email )

Do other tortoises get turned on when it rains, too? Red- and yellow-foots are related to hingebacks and also come from rain forests (and savannas). Do they also feel like breeding during the rainy season?

What about Russians? The other day my Russians were out and it started to rain. I hurried out to bring them inside, but it didn't seem like they were particularly concerned, nor were they looking for shelter themselves. If anything, I almost got the impression that they liked it. My Russians are still too young to mate, but they do exhibit some "proto-courtship" behavior, so I wonder. I've read that Hermann and Greek tortoises like to go out to drink and pee in puddles when it rains; maybe it had more to do with taking advantage of the moisture than getting turned on?
